Red, Yellow, Black (NYC)

Before performing "Red, Yellow, Black" in Barcelona at the World Parkinson’s Congress, PD Movement Lab assembled 14 PwPs and care partners from across NY State to perform the piece as part of the 2023 Mark Morris Dance Center showcase.

Two of the performers, Nancy and Jud Eson, made the tremendous effort to come to NYC from five hours away to rehearse and perform. They had been part of the Lab’s dance “Ooh Aah!” in Kyoto, Japan at the 5th World Parkinson’s Congress, and wanted to support the creation of “Red, Yellow, Black” even though they could not travel to Barcelona.

As the first group to perform “Red, Yellow, Black,” the dancers had to quickly adapt to large choreographic changes within their three rehearsals, and then perform the piece five times across a grueling three day schedule. When Pam initially made the choreography, she wondered if it might be too challenging. To her delight, the grit, adaptability, and energy of the dancers proved her wrong. Their performances were festive, triumphant, and on point.
