Dear Person with Parkinson’s,

Would you like to be in a performance in June that you learn at home at your own pace with a partner to work with?

Pamela Quinn is soliciting people interested in participating in a home choreography project called “Red, Yellow, Black.” Support for you is given in the following ways:

  • You will learn the dance through a series of small, digestible videos. Each video by itself is simple. You will learn the movement by mirroring what you see on the screen- it will be like you’re looking in a mirror. You can of course learn at your own pace and repeat it as much as you want because you’re doing it at home.

  • You will receive video support through Zoom whenever you want.

  • During the performance Pam, the choreographer, will be standing at the front of the dance helping guide you through the dance.

  • There is a seated version and standing version of the dance, so people of different ability levels can participate.

  • A lot of the movement is in unison, so everyone around you will be doing the same thing.

  • The music will remind you what to do too.

The dance, “Red, Yellow, Black,” will draw on the passion of Latin dance, and use partner work and a spectacle of swirling towels to celebrate Spanish culture. Participants will include 16-32 PwPs from around the NYC area.

If anything proves too difficult, we will change it in our rehearsals. Pam is committed to making you feel secure as possible. Pam has Parkinson’s Disease herself, and has choreographed many pieces with people of all ability levels. Here is a picture of one of her past dances:

If you are interested, to participate you will need to:

  • Choose a partner to dance with- a friend, a spouse, a caregiver, a family member – with or without PD, who will practice and perform with you.

  • Learn the dance in your home between mid-February and mid-March. You will need approximately six sessions of 30-40 minutes each.

  • Have two Zoom review sessions with Pam or her dance assistant Mor

  • Attend two rehearsals in Brooklyn, NY at the Mark Morris Dance Center in late March

  • Attend one rehearsal in Brooklyn in May for touch ups

  • Attend one dress rehearsal in Brooklyn days before the performance

  • Perform June 9th, 10th, and 11th at the Mark Morris Dance Center

If you can commit to doing these things, please fill out the form below. If you cannot find a partner you can fill out the form as a single person and we will try to match you with someone in your area. However, preference will be given to people who fill out the form with a partner to rehearse and perform with.

If you have any question you can reach out to Pam at pam@pdmovementlab.com.
